Make your plans to join us Friday September 27th at 10:00AM at the depot for the Official Ribbon Cutting and Grand Reopening ! And Saturday Sept. 28th from 11AM till 2PM for the “OPEN HOUSE”
Letter from Mayor Jim Grier,
On behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Lula, I would like to invite you to attend the Ribbon Cutting and Dedication of the renovated Lula Depot Community Center on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 10:00am. I anticipate the ceremony will last no more 45 minutes with light refreshments served afterward. The Depot is located at 5911 Wall Street in the heart of Downtown Lula at the Athens Street Crossing of the Norfolk Southern Railway.
Although the building is not an historic depot building, it was originally constructed by a community group in the 1980s. Sadly the membership of that group declined substantially over the last decade and two years ago, that group donated the building and land to the City with the understanding that the City would continue to operate it as a base for community events. The Council has studied alternatives and made plans to renovate and improve the building and Phase 1, which involved a major renovation of the building, is nearing completion. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate the renovation of the building with the community and inform them of the beginning of Phase 2 which involves the renovation of the Stage, event seating area, landscaping and additional parking.
Hosting Chamber events like the Economic Development Council, Commercial Real Estate Update and Business Before or After Hours are among the anticipated uses the council has identified for the Depot Community Center. The venue will of course be used for additional community events throughout the year. so we hope you can join us to see firsthand what Lula has to offer. We look forward to having you join us for this happy occasion!
Sincerely,
Jim Grier, Mayor
City of Lula
