Welcome Aboard Matt!
The City is so fortunate to have Matt Hamby finally sworn in, taking the oath of office during the Regular March Council Meeting as was officiated by City Clerk Rosemary Totty. The ceremony was celebrated with the attendance of his wonderful wife and two pleased children, proud parents and his delighted mother and father in-law.
Matt serves the “district one” council position for the city and promised to serve the interest of the community overall. Councilmen Hamby went on to say he looked forward to working with the Mayor and Council as a team player, tackling the challenges brought to the city as a team effort. Matt comes to the city with a great amount of knowledge as he has many years of experience in finance and currently serves for the City of Gainesville as Deputy Chief Financial Officer.
Matt has already played an active role with the council previously joining the City Council in a meeting with Newly Elected Governor Brian Kemp and attending an award presentation as the City was again designated as a PlanFirst Community and has attended numerous committee and work sessions in the past 2+ months.
Mayor Jim Grier is already addressing the roles the (now) full council will play in the City Committees with appointments heard during the March Work Session. In the meantime, the council has called for the November Election (Nov. 5th) so the council positions of Post 1, Post 4 & Post 5 can be considered by the voters. as well as approving the qualifying fee of $100.00 for the 4-year term in office.
