Veterans Day Celebration Thursday NOV 11th, 10 AM Lula Veterans Park
Come celebrate our veterans past and present for their continued commitment to keep our country safe, brought to you by the Lula Belton Historical Society and the City of Lula.
This years guest speaker is Retired First Sargent David (Bill) Miles
Bill is in his 6th term as Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Grant-Reeves Post 7720 Cornelia, Georgia. He is also on his 3rd term as VFW District# 2 Commander and the Adjutant for the Disabled American Veterans. He also serves as the Service Officer for The American Legion, DAV and VFW. Bill is originally is from Des Moines, Iowa. After spending 2 ½ years in the Wounded Warrior Program he retired as a First Sergeant U.S. Army with 28 years as a Senior Maintenance Supervisor. After leaving Germany he relocated to Clarkesville, Georgia.
His awards and decorations are many to include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 1 silver and 1 oak leaf cluster and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is Airborne, Air Assault qualified and was awarded the Combat Action Badge for actions taken in Iraq. Bill served 55 months of combat, Gulf War, Afghanistan and four tours to Iraq. He served several peace keeping deployments: Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, and Kosovo. Bill is an inductee of Audie Murphy, Sergeant Morales and Samuel Sharpe. He was Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year of the 7th Combat Support Group, 3rd COSCOM and 5th Corps.
Those attending will also enjoy patriotic songs by Area Singers and Lula Elementary as well as the Hall County Sheriffs Department Color Guard.
