Garnett Smith represents the citizens in District 4, which covers the northeast section of Lula. He was elected in 2015 to fill an open council seat for the final year of the term and was reelected for another four-year term beginning in 2016. As a Council Member, Garnett serves on four city committees: Finance Committee, Cemetery Committee, Downtown Beautification and Redevelopment Committee and the Parks and Festivals Committee.
Smith ran on a platform promoting neighborhood vitality and citizen engagement. He welcomes progress, innovation and growth, but believes that healthy growth results only after good-faith consideration of all points of view.
Smith is a lifelong resident of Lula. He attended Lula Elementary and is a graduate of East Hall High School. He has lived in the same house with his wonderful wife, Linda, for over 52 years. They have two children and three grandchildren. Smith worked with Henry Miller of Lula for 7 years in Lula’s largest poultry business and owned a food catering business for 40 years. Currently, Smith works part-time as an employee for Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cemeteries and Crematory, serving his community for the past 20 years.
