Updated
Most but not corrections have been made by the recent two storms, it will take us a while longer to get everything back in ship shape but we are thankful for all these efforts and are grateful the community didn’t have more issues.
Road Washout Victoria Lane
As most of you are aware the significant rain overnight washed out the creek pipe on Victoria Lane, (making the road impassable) interrupted the water service and Georgia Power.
As unfortunate as this was, the city was able to get the water line temporarily repaired and get the power restored. The repair of the road however created insurmountable (unbelievable)challenges. The City was able to reach a contractor and make a temporary ONE LANE road so the residences can have limited access to and from.
Under the conditions we are extremely fortunate in such a short span of hours to create this TEMPORARY access, BUT……… we need everyone’s cooperation.
1st. limit your trips IN AND OUT of the subdivision
2nd. Travel no more than 5 MPH through the temporary crossing
3rd. Do not under any circumstances stop your car while on the temporary crossing.
4th. Please recognize the danger of having a washout is, please don’t’ approach the road washout on foot, keep your children under your constant watch, we understand the curiosity of wanting to see how bad it is, which is why we included the pictures, it’s bad.
5th. We will not allow school bus traffic or heavy trucks to access the temporary crossing due to the conditions.
What next? As you can imagine this is a profoundly serious situation and the remedy will require us to evaluate how best to repair the road and insure no future failures. We are already working with our engineers to design a long-term solution, and we have a contractor awaiting the design. Once the design is complete, we can begin to ascertain/ determine the materials and how long the repair work would take.
We will communicate the, ”what, when and how” to all the residences as we know it.
We clearly recognize the inconvenience this creates for everyone and are appreciative of the assistance of Georgia Power, Hall County Fire Department, Hall County Road Department and of course our contractor who was on the scene within an hour, and now we ask for your understanding as we work to do the repairs, but as we all know, this is not a quick fix.
From what we can gather the surrounding communities in Banks, Hall and Habersham County were all impacted by this storm, so I guess we should count ourselves lucky in some respect that it wasn’t any worse, but it sure is frustrating. Hang in there with us and we can assure we will work on this diligently, as quick as we can, but most of all do it right.
Stay Safe……….

Are there “Bears” in Lula, to be exact there is ……. a black bear was seen off of Pine Street near the Wellness Park. Yes, we contacted Georgia Department of Natural Resources and they pointed out that it’s not so unusual to see bears in our rural setting especially this time of the year. The offered BEARWISE BASICS for the community to keep in mind. 1. Never Feed or Approach Bears, 2. Secure Food, Garbage and Recycling, 3. Remove Bird Feeders when Bears are Active, 4. Never Leave Pet Food Outdoors, 5. Clean and Store Grills, and, 6. Alert Your Neighbors to Bear Activity. See the poster for more information. Why Should YOU Respond!
Think of it this way: It’s a once-every-10-years occasion for communities, cities, regions, and states to receive a certain portion of federal funding proportionate to their populations. Areas with larger populations get more funding, so it’s important that census data accurately reflect the population of a given community.
For your Community “Lula” it might make the difference over the next 10 years in returning your Federal Tax Dollars back to where they were paid, funding, grants for community projects, even helping offset cost for roads, water and sewer. New and expanded parks, schools, improvements to our downtown street scape program just to name a few
The census operates mainly on self-reporting: You are required by law to provide answers about yourself and members of your household. Fortunately, the 2020 Census makes it incredibly easy to respond. (Truly, it takes about 10 minutes and can be done online or over the phone right now.)
In mid-March, the Census Bureau sent out official mail with detailed instructions for responding to the census to U.S. households. In years past, census takers have visited homes later in the year for responses from those who have not already responded, but in-person interviews have been adapted or postponed in cooperation with federal, state, and local social distancing guidelines. To complete the 2020 Census over the phone with a Census Questionnaire Assistance representative, call 1-844-330-2020.
Even with the coronavirus pandemic, though, 2020 Census data must be collected. The self-response phase—in which households can respond online, over the phone, or by mail, though online response is the preferred method, because it’s FAST and Easy!
Do “YOUR” Part it will help pay BIG dividends in the long run.
UPDATE 58% of Lula residents have filled out the current census data and it takes less than 5 minutes to do online……!
